Native Instruments Kontakt is the industry standard for sampler software, used by top-tier film composers, music producers, and sound designers worldwide. While the sonic capabilities of Kontakt are undisputed, the visual workspace is equally important for a seamless, creative workflow. If you use a large number of custom, third-party, or legacy libraries, your Native Access browser might look disorganized, or your libraries might not appear in the standard "Libraries" tab at all.
An activation file, primarily using the .nicnt extension, tells Kontakt how to read, categorize, and display a non-player library.
When a user legally purchases a library, they receive this activation file, or it is generated by the Native Access software. This file tells Kontakt, "This user owns this library; decrypt the samples and load the wallpaper."
