Ney Rosauro composed the Concerto for Marimba and Orchestra between June and July of 1986 in Brasília, dedicating it to his son, Marcelo. Interestingly, Rosauro wrote a large portion of the work while nursing a broken left wrist, adding the complex solo parts later once he healed to ensure they remained fluid and idiomatic to the instrument.
