The Epson PX660 is a solid photo printer, but like all Epson inkjets, it has a programmed obsolescence feature. It counts the number of cleaning cycles and print jobs, storing this data in an internal "Waste Ink Counter." When the printer estimates the ink pads are full, it stops working and displays the error:
A warning prompt will pop up asking for confirmation to clear the memory. Click . Step 5: Finalizing the Firmware Reset
While your printer will work after resetting the counter, the physical pads have already absorbed waste ink. The counter reset only tells the printer to ignore the accumulated waste, but the pads remain saturated. If you reset multiple times without replacement, eventually the pads will overflow, potentially damaging your printer. For light home users, one or two resets may be acceptable, but for heavy users, pad replacement is the correct long-term solution.
